How TechMap Live works

TechMap Live — often written Tech Map Live — is a live map of reported technology events worldwide — AI releases, rocket launches, chip news, funding rounds, data breaches — assembled automatically from free public tech news feeds. No account, no paywall, and every marker links to the article it came from.

TechMap Live is an aggregator, not a newsroom. Event locations and origins are estimated by an AI model reading public news headlines and can be wrong — an event is usually pinned at a company’s headquarters or launch site. Always check the linked original report.

Who runs this

TechMap Live is built and operated by Lumora Build. It is an independent project with no affiliation to any government, technology company, news organisation or political group, and it carries no advertising and no sponsorship — there is no ad unit anywhere on this site and nothing here is paid for. (It does load a Google Ads tag, which measures whether an ad brought you here; the privacy policy says exactly what that does.)

There is no newsroom behind it and no human reviews each event before it appears — that is stated plainly because it is the most important thing to know about the data. What there is: a published method, a named operator, and a correction address. If a marker is wrong, tell us and it gets fixed: techmaplive@lumorabuild.com. Corrections are welcome and acted on; that is the only quality control this project has beyond the checks described below.

1. Free sources only

The site reads 73 public RSS feeds on rotation, a slice of them every five minutes, so each source is checked roughly every quarter of an hour — TechCrunch, The Verge, Ars Technica, Wired, MIT Technology Review and IEEE Spectrum for general tech; dedicated desks for AI (VentureBeat AI, The Decoder), space (Space.com, SpaceNews, NASA, ESA), robotics (The Robot Report, Robohub), security (BleepingComputer, The Hacker News, The Record) and hardware (Tom's Hardware); plus native-language tech outlets in German, French, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Chinese, Arabic, Persian and Polish for the markets the English press covers thinly. No paid data, no API keys.

Every marker names its outlet and links the original article, so the attribution always travels with the claim.

2. A filter, before any AI runs

Most of what these feeds publish is not a mappable tech event. A headline has to name a concrete technology and carry evidence that something actually happened before it reaches the model — so "OpenAI launches GPT-6" passes and "expert discusses the future of AI" does not. Reviews, deals, listicles, rumors and commentary are rejected outright.

3. The model classifies and locates — nothing else

A language model reads each surviving headline, decides whether it describes a specific development that can be tied to a real place — a company's headquarters, a launch pad, a factory, a venue — and estimates the coordinates, the topic and the impact level.

It is never allowed to supply a source, an outlet name or a timestamp. Those are copied verbatim from the originating feed entry. Anything it returns that fails validation is discarded rather than repaired, and there is deliberately no seed or sample data — the map stays empty until something real lands on it.

4. An arc is only drawn when the article names both sides

An arrow from one place to another is a factual claim, so one appears only when the story is one side acting on a target somewhere else and the reporting names both: the acquirer's headquarters to the company bought, the lead investor to the startup funded, the attributed origin of a cyberattack to its victim. Where no second side is named, the event keeps a plain marker and no arrow. Even then the origin is an attribution — usually a headquarters — not a measured location.

Why the map defaults to the last 10 events

Tech news arrives in bursts around US and Asian working hours, with deep lulls between them — so a fixed one-hour view was frequently a world map with a single pin, telling the truth and looking broken. Showing the last 10 events is honest in both directions: the page says "10" and shows 10, however fast or slowly they arrived. Time windows from one hour to 24 are one tap away, and they are absolute: nothing outside the chosen window is ever shown.
