Major data breach, AI safety wins, and new hardware launches

Right now the big story is a massive data breach. IDScan, based in Scottsdale, has confirmed that hackers put 153 million driver's license scans up for sale earlier this month. That's a critical incident. On the AI safety side, Anthropic says it caught five separate cases of researchers trying to use its Claude model for bioweapons work and stopped them. Meanwhile the payment giants Visa, Mastercard and Ant International are teaming up on a shared system to verify AI agents that make purchases. In product news, Google finally brought its Gemini assistant to Windows as a native desktop app, adding the Spark and Omni features that Mac users got months ago.
